I am taking a few moments to try to think of what that means, to me, and to try to remember what that might mean to others. Crisis line work is hard and heavy, and the worst calls I get are from the teens and adults who don’t understand why they face the rejection they do, just because of who they are. They don’t understand why the people they thought loved them are cutting them off, telling them they’re ‘bad,’ or ‘evil,’ or somehow ‘sick,’ because they love someone of the same sex or gender.
I’ve never been told this, but I do not understand how someone can look at a child and say seriously: ”You are wrong for loving. This love is evil, or corrupt. You are bad because of who you are.”
I’m interrupting: if you’ve ever been told this, you were lied to. You are loved. You are important. You matter. Please stay with us.
